E3 Pattern: Pushing the 2:1 Spoke Pattern to Its Limit
The E-cubed (E3) pattern is an advanced evolution of the 2:1 spoke pattern. In this configuration, the second and third spokes in each group of three use the first spoke as a "windshield," effectively reducing air resistance due to their close spacing. All spokes are designed to maintain nearly identical tension during both driving and braking, resulting in a uniform natural frequency, which is key to achieving the exceptionally smooth ride feel of DAAP.
LFR (Local Fiber Reinforcement)
Carbon rims must absorb the road surface's impact and vibration while handling spoke tensions exceeding 100 kg. The LFR method is a specialized carbon layup technique optimized for the DAAP spoke pattern, which controls the number of layers and the direction of the carbon prepreg. Reinforced layers are added near the spokes to account for the magnitude and direction of their forces, while the rest of the rim is constructed from thin UD carbon that effectively dampens road vibration. This results in ideal stiffness and comfort. The DAAP disc with LFR weighs 1149 g, 1265 g, and 1348 g (Tubular, Tubeless SL, and Tubeless Standard, respectively), while the DAAP Sigma finishes at 1448 g (Tubeless).
Proprietary Hub for Perfection
The DAAP disc hub is meticulously engineered for optimal wheelset performance. The front and rear hubs feature 18 holes and extended hub flanges, with a tangential spoke structure within 0.01 mm and 0.01 degrees of precision, ensuring equal spoke tension on both sides. This optimized hub design flawlessly transfers drive torque during attacks and sprints and braking torque exceeding 3000 W.
Carbon Spokes
The DAAP carbon spokes are 40% lighter than the highest-quality stainless steel spokes, offering more than 35% greater tensile strength and stiffness. They are replaceable in the event of damage. The reduced spoke count significantly lowers air resistance and overall weight without compromising lateral stiffness.
Optimized Rim Design
The DAAP rim features a 50 mm depth and 22.5 mm internal / 31.2 mm external width. WHEELLAB's rim profile is designed to work seamlessly with modern 25c to 28c race tyres, maximizing performance across rolling resistance, aerodynamics, crosswind control, responsiveness, and cornering. The hook rim design ensures compatibility with nearly all existing road bike tyres.
R&D, QC, Warranty
The founder oversees WHEELLAB's production, from design to final assembly. Rigorous testing, data collection, and analysis are conducted at the development stage to ensure quality and reliability. The founder personally inspects each wheel after the quality control process for all components is completed, aiming for such high standards that the product rarely, if ever, requires warranty service. The DAAP disc has a five-year warranty, underscoring the brand's confidence in its quality and durability.
